Recall Alert: Maruti Suzuki Baleno and DZire Diesel AGS

Maruti Recall

Maruti Suzuki has issued a recall of two of its popular cars in India, the Baleno premium hatchback and the Swift DZire compact sedan. While the carmaker has recalled 75,419 units of the Baleno including both petrol and diesel variants, only 1,961 units of the Swift DZire have been recalled which exclusively consists of the fairly new Diesel AGS variant.

The Baleno has been recalled for two separate issues. All 75,419 units (including both diesel and petrol variants), manufactured between August 3, 2015, and May 17, 2016, have been recalled to update the airbag controller software installed in them. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno is offered with dual front airbags as standard across the range.

Out of the 75,419 units recalled, 15,995 diesel variants also need their fuel filters to be inspected and replaced if faulty. The Maruti Suzuki Baleno has been one of the highest selling cars in the country - the company dispatched 9562 units of the model in April 2016, which is a 53 per cent increase in sales as compared to March 2016. Maruti has been able to sell more than 8000 units of the Baleno every month over the past half-a-year.

For the Maruti Suzuki DZire, all the 1,961 units will go through an inspection for faulty fuel filters, and if necessary, will be replaced too. The Maruti Suzuki DZire is the largest selling compact sedan in the country, with the company selling almost 17,000 units of the car every month for the past half-year!

Owners of the affected units will be contacted by Nexa/Maruti Suzuki dealerships beginning May 31, 2016; inspection and replacement of faulty parts will be carried out free of cost. Owners of the Baleno can check if their car is a part of this recall by going to the Nexa website and typing in MA3 followed by their car's 14-digit alpha-numeric chassis number.
