Honda City

Honda Cars India has announced a preventive recall of over 57,676 cars sold in India to replace defective driver-side airbags fitted in them. This is part of the company's worldwide recall since it was revealed that airbag units supplied by Takata, a major component supplier, were defective and could cause life-endangering incidents. The airbag inflators, which use a controlled explosion to help inflate airbags in case of an accident, were found to be defective - with many cases reporting very powerful explosions which could do more harm than good. 10 deaths worldwide have been confirmed to be due to these defective airbag inflator units, with eight of them being in Honda cars.

There are no reports of injuries or deaths in India which have been attributed to these defective airbag units. Companies like Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Renault and Mitsubishi have issued recalls for their cars in India in phases since 2014.

Honda has recalled 57,676 units of their cars sold in India - this include the 2011-2014 City sedan, 2011-2013 Jazz hatchback and 2010-2013 Civic sedan. Affected units are to be taken to the nearest Honda service station beginning 20th February 2016 - where the defective airbag inflators will be replaced free of cost.
