Skoda India has launched the all-new, third generation Superb premium sedan in the country. The new Skoda Superb's design is very different from its predecessor - where the older model went for an understated, elegant look, the new Superb is all about aggression, details and a sense of maturity that new Skoda cars (beginning with the new Skoda Octavia in India) seem to exude. Highlights of the exterior design include the new Skoda wing-like grille, the sculpted headlight cluster with distinctive LED DRLs, blacked out treatment and projector headlamp, character lines on the hood, straight and clean creases along the side, rear windows which feature an up-swept kink at the end and a coupe-like roof which goes on smoothly to the boot.

The large 17-inch alloy wheels and noticeable wheel arches add character to the side design. The rear design is dominated by long and sleek tail-light clusters, the sculpted bumper and the smooth boot-lip. In order to open the boot, all you need to do is wave your foot under the bumper and voila! The boot opens on its own.
Some of the other striking features include a 12-way adjustable front seats which are ventilated, 3-zone climate control system, a reverse-parking camera, panoramic sunroof and two umbrella cases for a rainy day. One can also choose from 3 mood lighting packages which can be specified in red, green and white. Also, there is a 610 watt, 8-speaker audio system that can belt out your favourite tunes with exceptional clarity.
Skoda says that safety is of paramount importance in all its cars and the Superb takes the safety of its occupants very very seriously. The New Superb comes equipped with ABS, 8 airbags, ESP along with hill-hold assist and multi-collision brakes as standard. What these brakes do is engage automatically in case it senses the airbags being deployed.
Inside, the design is simple yet classy - though there are nice touches like the 6.5-inch touch-screen infotainment that gets the MirrorLink system and can be used with iOS and Android systems as well. It can be used to control the infotainment system and control various aspects of the car including the suspension settings. Space inside is more than ever - the new Superb is based on Volkswagen's new MQB platform which makes use of a special alloy coupled with steel. This results in weight savings of 70 kgs.
The Skoda Superb is powered by a 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol motor rated at 180PS/250Nm and a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine rated at 177PS/350Nm. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual gearbox and a 7-speed DSG. Power is sent to the front wheels. The new Superb in its diesel variant is also 26 per cent more powerful, 6 per cent more efficient than its predecessor. It has an ARAI-rated fuel efficiency of 18.1 kmpl for the TDI variant, while the manual petrol delivers 14.12kmpl and the 7-speed DSG variant delivers an efficiency of 14.67kmpl.
